Ideas for a fundraiser raffle

  • Ask local businesses for prizes. A restaurant voucher, a haircut or a hamper costs them little and gives them a mention on the ticket and at the draw.
  • Write the cause in the fine print. “All proceeds support the school library” sells more tickets than a bare price.
  • Sell in bundles. “$5 each or 5 for $20” turns one-ticket buyers into five-ticket buyers.
  • Give sellers numbered batches. Prefixes per volunteer make it easy to reconcile money and stubs afterwards.

Before the first ticket is sold

  1. Decide the draw date, time and place, and print them on the ticket.
  2. Check your local rules on raffles and permits.
  3. Write down the ticket number ranges you print, so you can account for every ticket.

Questions

How much should fundraiser tickets cost?

Most small fundraisers sell tickets for $1 to $10. A common rule of thumb is to price so that selling about half your tickets covers the prizes you had to buy; donated prizes make everything after that profit. Offer a bundle, such as 3 for $5, to raise the average sale.

How many tickets should I print?

Count your likely buyers and multiply by two or three tickets each. It is easier to print a second batch with the next start number than to have hundreds left over. Each free PDF holds up to 50.

Can volunteers each get their own number range?

Yes. Give each seller a batch: one PDF starting at 1, the next at 51, the next at 101, and so on. Add a prefix per seller (A-, B-, C-) to see at a glance who sold which ticket.

Do I need a permit to hold a raffle?

It depends on where you are. Raffle and lottery rules differ by country, state and city, and some places require a permit or limit who may run one. Check with your local authority before you sell tickets. See how to run a raffle.

What goes on the stub?

The ticket number, always, plus write-in lines you choose: name, phone, email and address. The buyer keeps the ticket; you keep the stub in the draw box. A dashed line marks where to tear or cut.

Is it really free?

Yes. Up to 50 numbered tickets per PDF, every free colour theme, stubs, every layout, PDF download and printing are free, with no account. Free pages carry one small line at the bottom saying where they were made.
